Second Grade News! What's coming up...
Read every night and log your minutes. Our goal for independent reading is 10 minutes!

Reading:
We are working on getting to know ourselves as readers. What kinds of books do we love? Where is our perfect reading spot? We are getting to know the characters in our books and talking to our partners about our favorites! We working on improving our stamina by reading a little more each day.

Writing:
We have begun writing by decorating our writing notebook with all of the special things in our lives. We will be collecting ideas, drafting stories, revising, editing, and publishing our first personal narrative. At talk to your child about special memories and help them tell the beginning, middle, and end of the story. We will be adding lots of details by making the characters in our stories talk, think, and move!

Math:
We will be starting the year off mastering our addition and subtraction facts. We should know facts through 20 in a snap. Keep practicing at home! In math will also be solving story problems and using the strategies of drawing a picture and writing a number sentence to help us solve these types of problems.
